If you were to die today, and God
asked you why He should let you into His heaven, what would you
say?
FIVE IMPORTANT FACTS help you answer this question.
FACT 1: Heaven (eternal life) is a free gift.
Heaven is a place of beauty, peace and rest where there is no
pain, no crying, no sorrow, no death. Heaven is a place of perfection
where there is no sin. A place much better than anywhere on earth!
And it is free a gift.
The Bible says: For the wages of sin is death; but the
gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord
(Rom. 6:23).
It is true God wants you to go to Heaven. Eternal life
is a free GIFT!
FACT 2: We do not deserve the gift of Heaven Why?
Everyone is a sinner:For all have sinned,
and come short of the glory of God (Rom. 3:23). The
Bible says we are born with a desire to sin. It makes no difference
if you are rich or poor, young or old. All of us have sinned.
No matter how many good works a person does, he is still a sinner.
No one can save himself: There are no works (good things)
that you can do to make it possible for you to go to Heaven:
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not
of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any
man should boast (Eph. 2:8-9).
God says that you cannot work for Heaven. God does not want people
thinking Im better than other people. I am good enough
for Heaven! Just look at all these good things I have done!
The following things cannot get you to Heaven:
- Obeying the 10 Commandments
- Getting baptized
- Good works like feeding the poor or helping your family
- Giving money to the church
- Church confirmation or catechism
The Bible says that works of righteousness (the good things
you try to do) will not help you at all: Not by works
of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy
he saved us (Titus 3:5).
FACT 3: There is a penalty for your sin.
You must pay for your sin: The wages (payment) of sin
is death (Rom. 6:23). Until you accept Gods payment
for your sin, Gods wrath abides on you: He that
believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God
abideth on him (John 3:36).
God will judge your sin: God is the righteous judge
(2 Tim. 4:8). Because God is a righteous judge, He must demand
payment for sin.
The punishment for sin is death: eternal suffering in hell and
the lake of fire. Death and hell delivered up the dead
which were in them: and they were judged every man according
to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of
fire (Rev. 20:13-14).
FACT 4: God loves you & gave Jesus as your only way
to Heaven.
God does not want you to go to hell. He provided a way for you
to have eternal life in Heaven. For God so loved the
world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth
in him should not perish, but have everlasting life
(John 3:16).
Jesus is Gods way, the only way for you to go to Heaven.
No one is going to Heaven unless they trust in Jesus alone. Jesus
says in the Bible: I am the way, the truth, and the
life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me (John
14:6).
Eternal life is not offered by a church, by a priest, or by an
organization; it is offered by God alone. Jesus did it all! You
cannot add to what Jesus did, or take away from it. Jesus alone
paid your sins penalty without any help!
Who exactly is Jesus Christ? Jesus is fully man and
fully God. He came down from Heaven: For I came down
from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that
sent me (John 6:38). Jesus said He was God: I
and my Father are one (John 10:30). Because He is God,
He could live a perfect life. Because He lived as a man, He could
take your place to pay for your sin through His death: And
being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became
obedient unto death, even the death of the cross (Phil
2:8).
What did Jesus Christ do for us? Jesus came from Heaven,
was born as a baby, lived a sinless life and died on a cross
for our sins. But God commendeth (showed) his love toward
us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much
more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved
from wrath through him (Rom. 5:8-9). For Christ
also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that
he might bring us to God (1 Pet. 3:18).
Jesus proved that He defeated death and can deliver us from
eternal death by rising from the dead. For his Son from
heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered
us from the wrath to come (1 Thess. 1:10).
Jesus offers you a precious relationship. Jesus wants to be
your friend. Jesus wants to free you from the penalty of sin
and to give you eternal life!
So how do you receive this gift of eternal life? BY FAITH.
FACT 5: Faith in Jesus Christ is the Answer
Faith is not merely believing a fact. Many people believe
that Jesus lived and died, and some even believe that He rose
again from the dead! But many still believe that they have to
do something to be saved or to keep their salvation. They have
not trusted Jesus as the only and complete payment for their
sin.
Faith is believing you can do nothing to help you go
to heaven.
trusting in Jesus Christ alone for your eternal salvation! That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus,
and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from
the dead, thou shalt be saved For whosoever shall call upon
the name of the Lord shall be saved (Rom 10:10,13).
How do you call upon the name of the Lord? You stop trusting
in what you can do and trust only Jesus Christ for eternal life.
You dont try to do good things or to stop sinning in order
to get to Heaven. You go directly to Jesus He has paid
the price for your sin!
God doesnt ask you to go to a school, take an exam,
or even be baptized before you accept His gift. Believe
on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved (Acts
16:31). Salvation is immediate! When you truly believe and accept
Jesus payment as the only payment for your sin, God promises
to save you. He will make you His child and give you eternal
life His Gift! Since you have done nothing to receive
eternal life, there is nothing you can do to lose it. God
hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.
These things have I written unto you that believe on the
name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal
life (1 John 5:11,13).
If you have believed what the Bible says and are trusting
in Jesus payment as the only, complete payment for your
sin, God promises that you are saved that you have everlasting
life instead of eternal death in hell. He that believeth
on the Son hath everlasting life (John 3:36).
Why not pray and thank God for the gift He has given to you.
This prayer is not part of being saved, but it will help you
to remember the gift God has given you through His Son, Jesus
Christ.
Dear God, I admit I am a sinner.
I believe Jesus shed his blood and took my punishment on the
cross. I believe Jesus rose from the dead. Dear Jesus, thank
you for helping me to understand and believe that You have paid
the complete price for my sin. Thank you for making me Your child
and for giving me Your gift of eternal life. In Jesus Name, Amen.
